Senior Mechanical Project Engineer (Contract) – Plano, TX SUMMARY: The Sr. Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible to lead the mechanical design activity implementing innovative and cost-effective product solutions to support the organization from product concept, prototype development through to full-scale production. The Project Engineer will primarily support emerging technology, custom development programs to discover and grow new technologies. These programs are hands on and operate within small cross-functional teams. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Be a technical lead closing the gaps between Strategy, Program Management, and Technical Teams • Work closely with clients and colleagues on initial concept development, including brainstorming, sketching, and complex CAD modeling • Support hands-on design and development of products/platforms to drive innovation and support customer engagements • Define new mechanical product architecture, manage design parameters, and design tradeoff priorities on new/ambiguous technologies • Support the creation of product design documentation • Collaborate with a team of cross-functional engineers and designers adopting time and cost-effective solutions and analyzing technical and manufacturing readiness levels • Provide high quality technical reports supported by simulations and/or lab tests • Create and/or optimize Solidworks based CAD documentation to advance product maturity • Learn about company’s business as appropriate. Show up to work on time and attends work as scheduled. • All other duties as requested by supervisor or department lead. Job-Specific Competencies: • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering • Cumulative minimum 8 years mechanical design and development experience in a custom product development environment • Experience executing the mechanical system, subsystem, and part design of products from requirement specification up to transfer to manufacturing including fabrication, testing, verification and validation of engineering prototypes • Advanced understanding of heat transfer and how to optimize thermal systems • Experienced with plastic and metal manufacturing processes and associated tolerances, material selection tradeoffs, assembly, automation, and metrology tools with supplier management throughout the process • Ability to follow all applicable Business Management (BMS) processes. Management Competencies: • Demonstrated, consistent ability to self-manage small projects of various complexity • Knowledge of project management practices • General understanding of engineering development business practices Core Competencies: • Ability to break large projects down into manageable subtasks and the ability to promptly execute those tasks in a logical sequential manner • Ability to quickly assess and resolve diverse product mechanical challenges, and prioritize activities between multiple projects • Able to speak the unique language of the computer/networking industry • Ability to work within a cross-functional team while maintaining self-sufficiency • Advanced understanding of the economics of material and fabrication process selection • Previously trained in Six Sigma and DFM/DFA • Demonstrated ability to use SolidWorks to resolve mechanical challenges • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams)
