Senior Mechanical Designer – Plano, TX SUMMARY: The Sr. Mechanical Designer will be responsible to lead the mechanical design activity implementing innovative and cost-effective product design solutions to support the organization from product concept, prototype development through to full-scale production. The Sr. Mechanical Designer will primarily support creating small, detailed part designs, complete documentation, prototypes etc. and custom test or assembly fixturing as required to support new product platforms. These programs are hands on and operate within small, cross-functional teams. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:• Sketch and draw up design concepts using input from engineers and product architects on the team• Calculate factors like tolerance, dimensions, and thermal and structural analysis• Create 3D designs in Solidworks that follow company procedure, regulations and client standards• Submit 2D drawings for upper management review/approval• Create product BOMs to capture design details• Design bezels, brackets, Cables, Labels, PCBs & other injection molded parts• Able to effectively present mechanical design concepts with the team in order to acquire consensus• Able to work with loosely defined requirements and create complete solutions• Willingness to work as a mechanical assembly technician when called upon to verify designs• Able to do simple electrical work such as soldering and crimping of quick cabling prototypes• Able to guide engineers in using advanced Solidworks tools and features, as needed•  Prepare or recommend changes to corporate CAD & documentation standards and procedures• Expertise in application and interpretation of ANSI Y14.5 GD&T • Experience executing the mechanical system, subsystem and part design of products from requirement specification up to transfer to manufacturing including fabrication, testing, verification and validation of engineering prototypes• General technical understanding of heat transfer and thermal systems• Advanced understanding of design change control methodologies• Experienced with plastic and metal manufacturing processes and associated tolerances, material selection tradeoffs, assembly, automation, and metrology tools with supplier Create and/or optimize Solidworks based CAD documentation to advance product maturity• Learn about company’s business as appropriate. Show up to work on time and attends work as scheduled. • All other duties as requested by supervisor or department lead.  QUALIFICATIONS: • Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology• Cumulative minimum 5 years mechanical design and development experience in a custom product development environment• Solidworks Associate CSWA certification required. Solidworks Professional CSWP certification, a plus• Additional SW certifications, a plus• Solidworks PDM Administrator Professional (CPAP) a plus.• Experience designing PC’s or Server products• Excellent mechanical aptitude and space relation skills• Advanced computer and good mathematical skills• Flexible approach to work and the ability to adapt to change• Self-motivated attitude and the ability to use initiative• Ability to follow all applicable Business Management System (BMS) processes. Core Competencies:• Demonstrated ability to use SolidWorks to rapidly model and resolve mechanical challenges•  Ability to define complex problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts and draw reasonable conclusions • Ability to compose reports and correspondence• Excellent verbal and written communication skills• Ability to quickly assess and resolve diverse product mechanical challenges, and prioritize activities between multiple projects• Able to speak the unique language of the computer/networking industry• Ability to work within a cross-functional team while maintaining self-sufficiency• Advanced understanding of the economics of material and fabrication process selection• Previously trained in DFMA and/or Design for Six Sigma a plus• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams)• Knowledge of engineering college math and formulae is required
